Courage is the power to let go of the familiar… ~~Raymond Lundquist Hello all 🙂  Blogger Slacker returns… I took this pic a few weeks ago in  a remote place called Cathedral Canyon, in The Middle Of Nowhere, Missouri.  To reach this place, you have to leave all that is familiar, drive 2 hours from a major city, then hike  even further  into the more-middle-of-nowhere.  I must say~~ it was totally worth it.  The pic doesn’t do it justice.  I spent a few days in that part of the world, totally off the grid and reconnecting with myself.  It was lovely in a million different...

Many of us crucify ourselves between two thieves – regret for the past and fear of the future… ~~~Fulton Oursler Because we are afraid, we develop all kinds of habits which over time lead to addictions.  Human beings are funny like that–We look for strength in the things that weaken us… ~~Pema Chodron,  Dharma Teacher I took this picture over Labor Day weekend while hiking the Continental Divide Trail (CDT) in New Mexico.  For those of you with eyes over 40, that is a cow patty with flowers growing out of it. Lovely, isn’t it? 🙂 You have to understand the enormity of the canyon and the...

The Most Important Thing

Posted by on Jan 22, 2011 in Emotions, Grief, Happiness, Healing, Loss and Letting Go, Peace, prayers, Spirituality | 2 comments

Death is certain.  The time of death is uncertain.  Knowing this, what is the most important thing? ~~Buddhist wisdom I’ve thought about that question a lot lately.  My mom spent several days in the hospital recently, which means I’ve spent a lot of time at a hospital as well.   She is home now, sleeping soundly, and I write this from their house. Today was more doctors, more tests, more of walking the path that comes at this stage of the disease she is living with and dying from.  It is an interesting path and an interesting time. While that is a personal thing, I also have been...

Surely Goodness and Mercy will follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of God forever… ~~Psalm 23 Hello all 🙂  I’m going to be off the grid the next several days, but I wanted to do another 2010 post before I leave.  It seems like a good time for a few “best of” posts, so here ya go…  It is interesting to me that I originally posted this one in July, but I won’t have to change a single word for it to be applicable again today.  A lot of folks are having a rough time right now, it’s been a deep year for a lot of people.  I...

Getting There

Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. ~~Ralph Waldo Emerson Hello all 🙂 I was talking with some folks over the weekend about the paths we walk…how we think the path we are on will lead to a certain place, but part of the journey is accepting when it wanders into other areas.  Staying on the path and getting there aren’t necessarily the same thing, but probably all part of the same path.  It reminded me of the wonderful poem by David Wagoner, so I thought I’d post it.  We’ve all earned this ” worn-down, hard,...

Love is Kind

Posted by on Nov 10, 2010 in Emotions, Grief, Happiness, Loss and Letting Go, ponderings, prayers, Spirituality | 2 comments

Love is patient, love is kind… It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres… Love never fails… And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. ~~1 Corinthians 13 I thought a lot about those verses from 1 Corinthians the last week or so.  They are often used at weddings as the example of pure love, of how we are to interact with another, but the full verse is the example of God’s Love for us.  But I think they are also an aspiration for many of us, one that I don’t live out as well as I’d like, if I...
